I was just about to post this news but you beat me to the punch.
It looks like Verizon is really trying to be number 1 again. After Q1 2007, they were only behind 1.5M subscribers behind AT&T (cingular). But after Q2, 2007, they are now 1.6M subscribers behind.
With addition of 700K+ subscribers from Rural, they are closing the gap.
