Using Your V CAST Music phone
(Note: the steps for accessing some music functions may vary slightly by phone model.)
  1. How do I access V CAST Music on my phone? On your V CAST Music-capable phone, go to the Get It Now® menu and select the Get Tunes & Tones (or Music & Tones) category. Then select "Get V CAST Music" to launch the music store.
  2. How do I listen to music on my phone? Select Get Tunes & Tones, select Manage Music, select from Genres, Artists, Albums, Songs and then select the song. Or select a playlist from Playlists or select Play All or Shuffle. On some phones, the category “Manage Music” doesn’t appear. You can access your music from “My Music”.
  3. How do I purchase V CAST Music from my phone? From the V CAST Music menu, find the song(s) you want.
Note: You can preview a song by selecting the song and then selecting Preview.
    1. Then select the specific song and select BUY.
Note: You are charged when you select Buy. You can purchase the same music multiple times. Currently, there is NO message provided to advise you if you have already purchased a song.
    2. At the "Confirm Purchase" screen, review the items and price and then select BUY.
    3. You'll receive a confirmation of your purchase and that the music is ready for download.
    4. A message indicating that you can "download now" will also appear.
    5. Select OK to save the music to your phone. (Note: If you select Later, the purchased content will be available at a later time by selecting Download from the V CAST Music main menu.)
    6. Select the Storage Location, either the Phone Memory or Memory Card (if one is present.)
    7. The V CAST Music store will also send a second copy of the music file to your V CAST Music store account for you to download to your computer.
  4. Where can I use V CAST Music? Certain features of the service require you to be in the V CAST coverage area; some features are not dependent the V CAST coverage area you are in. View Coverage areas.
Features that require V CAST coverage
    • Accessing the mobile catalog
    • Browsing the catalog
    • Previewing, purchasing and downloading music
    • Setting, deleting and opening alerts
Features that are not dependent on any particular coverage area
    • Managing and playing music that is synced or downloaded
    • Creating and managing playlists
    • Receiving alerts
  5. Can I use V CAST Music where there is no coverage, such as in a tunnel? You can play and manage music that you have already downloaded or synced to your phone. However, if there is no signal available, your phone will keep trying to find a signal which may impact the music player function. To eliminate this issue, you can activate the Standalone (or Airplane) mode which turns off the phone’s radio. Note: Standalone Mode is also required if you wish to play music on your phone while aboard an airplane.
  6. Can I receive a call while I’m playing music on my phone? Yes. The playback is interrupted and you will receive a prompt to either answer or ignore the call. The playback will resume from where it stopped when you complete or ignore the call.
  7. Where can I store music if the memory on my phone is full? Music can also be stored to a compatible external memory card. External memory cards should only be used for storage. External memory cards are available from Verizon Wireless.
  8. If I delete a song that I purchased from my V CAST Music phone, how do I retrieve the song later? Whenever you purchase a song directly from your V CAST Music phone, you also receive a second, higher quality copy of the song sent to your account on the V CAST Music Online Store. Please download this song file to your music library and re-sync the song to your V CAST Music phone using a compatible USB cable.
  9. Do I use voice minutes when I access the V CAST Music store to manage alerts, browse, preview, purchase, and download music? Yes, unless you subscribe to a V CAST V-Pak plan, are a prepay customer, or have a V CAST Music capable PDA/Smartphone. The minutes you use when browsing, previewing, purchasing and downloading in the V CAST Music store are applied to your monthly airtime allowance. (Note – No airtime is deducted from your airtime allowance for these V CAST Music activities if you have the V-Cast V-Pak feature activated on your account or if you are a prepay customer). If you exceed your allowance minutes while browsing and downloading, you will be charged the same rate as voice minutes over your airtime allowance. You do not use voice minutes when you play music on your phone that you've previously downloaded or transferred from your PC. If you have a V CAST Music capable PDA/smartphone, using your phone for these activities will be billed as data usage per your data plan/feature or billed at 1.5˘ per KB if you do not subscribe to a data plan/feature.
  10. How long does it take to download music? Most songs take approximately one minute to download. Download times will vary based on the size of the file.
  11. Can I play my MP3 songs on a V CAST Music phone? Yes. Newer V CAST Music phones, such as the Chocolate by LG and the MOTOKRZR K1m, which have V CAST Music Version 01.02.000 or higher do play unprotected MP3 files directly. You can load music to these phones by either syncing or by “sideloading” to the MY_MUSIC folder on the memory card. (To format the memory card, turn on your phone, insert the card into the phone and then remove it. Save your music to the MY_MUSIC folder.) Note: only unprotected MP3 files can be played after being sideloaded. Protected MP3 files must be synced in order to be played on the phone.

Our V CAST Music phones with previous versions of the software can only play songs in the WMA format. However, using V CAST Music Manager or Windows Media Player 10 (or higher) and the appropriate USB cable and software, you can sync your MP3 files to the V CAST Music phone. During the sync process, MP3 files will be automatically converted to the WMA format that you can then play on the V CAST Music phone. The original MP3 files on your PC will remain in the MP3 format.
  12. Can I make a playlist from my phone? Yes, to create a playlist on your phone:
    1. Go to the Get It Now menu, select Get Tunes & Tones, (or Music & Tones), select Manage Music and select Playlists. (On some phones, the category Manage Music doesn’t appear. You can access playlists from My Music.)
    2. Press Options.
    3. Scroll down and select Create playlist.
    4. Give it a name and press OK.
    5. You can now add songs by browsing through your library of music.
    6. When a song is selected, press Options, select Add to playlist, select the playlist and press Add.
