Cingular launches LG HSDPA handset
ATLANTA—“Better and faster” is the hue-and-cry at Cingular Wireless L.L.C. this week as it launches LG Electronics Co. Ltd.’s CU500, an “ultrathin” clamshell handset for music, messaging, data and, oh yeah, voice services. The carrier said the phone is “one of the first” to enable subscribers to take advantage of its HSDPA 3G network—hence “better and faster”—which currently covers 18 major markets. In addition to audio, video and messaging capabilities, the CU500 includes a 1.3 megapixel camera with rotating lens and video capability. It is available for $100 with a mail-in rebate that requires an unlimited Media Net plan plus a two-year service contract.
