Default My recent visit to Verizon reseller store

I'm currently on family plan with my wife. My phone is the primary so I upgraded with $100 credit back in Jan. Now, my wife's phone is eligible for an upgrade (22 months) but since her phone is the secondary line, Verizon does not give any credit towards the new phone so she has to pay whatever the new subscriber pays with new 2 year contract.

There aren't many decent phones under $50, which is what we want to spend for the new phone.

So, we decided to try the Verizon reseller store, who typically gives you much better price on the new phones, if you are the new subscriber. Apparently, it's not so good for the people up for renewal. The best price they can offer to give is about $40 - $50 higher than the new phone price with 2 year contract at Verizon store.

For example, we wanted Samsung u740. At Verizon store, we would have to pay $129, after rebate. The reseller sells for $179.

However, the store explains that they can throw in chargers and headsets in for free, which typically cost ~$60 at the Verizon store.

Hmm.... We'll have to wait a little while for the price of these new phones to drop.

Why not check either ebay or vzw.com?

Well, the part of the problem is that her last two LG phones had trouble using it our home. I thought maybe it was just LG, until I got my VX-8600 and I didn't have any problem.

So, we need the ability to return/exchange the phone if the same problem exist so we can't buy it from eBay.

Not sure if it's her phone number that's causing problem, even though that's highly doubtful. Her friend with exact same LG phone did not have any problem at our house.

Not True! If you go to the site you can see they have an option for upgrading an existing line.

If you search hard enough you can find a deal. Or go to a store, tell them what you want and what you want to pay. If they are hungry they will bite.

OK. I see the other options, but they certainly change the price quite a bit and it seems to match what the Verizon store is charging.

We have our eyes set on Samsung u740 and with new customer, the phone is free for new sign up, $129 with renewal, and $399 for just the phone.

$129 is exactly what Verizon's price is for upgrade with new 2 year contract on the secondary line.

I'm assuming $129 is more then what you want to pay for the phone? So I guess my next question is what did you do with your last phone when you upgraded to this one? If nothing may I suggest selling it on ebay to make some money to afford your wife's new phone, or sell her phone and as soon as you get the money from the new buyer for her existing phone you go to Verizon Store and buy the phone then mail out her old phone

Just a suggestion or wait, but the waiting game isn't fun. I always find ways of getting the new things I want quicker. Of course I got my ENV for $49, instead of $99 by just walking in and saying "I want that phone but I don't want to pay that price" and after the guy said sure, that's when he found out I was a new customer. I didn't tell him I was new until I could get what I wanted.

Good idea.

I still have my old phone (Audiovox CDM-9900) and I guess we can sell my wife's VX-8100. They have to be worth something at least.

I just checked ebay. It looks like I should be able to get $50 - $60 for an used LG VX8100.
