Default Restricted Caller

I just received a call from another Verizon cell phone user and the incoming display said "RESTRICTED". I've never seen that before. Is that some form of caller ID blocking?

Yes, it is.

I think you can request Verizon to keep your number private, in which case, the receiver of your call will not see the incoming number.

Even from your home phone, if you request your phone company to keep your number private, the receiver of your call will not see the incoming number.

It's good if you call people you don't want them to know your number, but I tend to not answer too many calls from numbers I don't recognize or no numbers. I feel much more comfortable answering the phone if I know exactly who it is.

Thanks. It was an older couple, nervous about others finding out what their cell phone number was, so that makes sense on what they would do.

I won't answer such a call since there is no way of knowing who the caller is, so I guess I will tell the couple that if I get such a call I will call them immediately. Hopefully I won't get a stranger call at 3:00 am.

the true number won't show up anywhere on your bill as it is requested to be private but if you ever do get harrassing phone calls from a number and tell the police about it they can typically get records of exactly who the person calling you is through whatever channels they use and get it stopped for you.

in the even that that doesn't work, you are allowed to change your phone number one time per year for free at vzw instead of paying the $15 dollar fee if you tell them you are getting harrassing phone calls.
