Speed dial voice mail password?

I'm having trouble getting my 9900 to include a voice mail password in the speed dial. I've tried numerous variations, including:

*86PP<password>#
<my number>PP<password>#
*86W<password>#

Where P is a pause and W is a wait.

If I use any number of pauses (I've tried 1, 2, 3 and 4) I don't hear the phone dialing the password, and the voice mail just keeps asking me to enter it.

If I use a wait, then when I hit (per the manual) the left soft key to continue dialing the phone mutes instead, and doesn't send the password.

Frazzled. All ideas welcome. Thanks in advance.
