FYI I used my 6100 car cord on my friends 8300, works fine.

What is the best phone out there? Most durable, good spkrphone? I could care less about mp3 or cameras I need a good sounding durable phone. Seems like Verizon has all trendy type phones...I need durable. Any suggestions???

If Durable is all you are looking for, you can't beat Migo.

If your vpc works on the lg 8300 then it is an aftermarket univeral one. all the ones made by vzw or LG directly have differnt port set ups

If you want good speakerphone and reliability than you want the kyocera 444s. It comes standard with an extended battery, is super heavy duty and is modeled after the push to talk Kyocera 444P so it has a really good speaker phone. Most stores don't have the S in stock, only the P but you can order it or get it online after you look at the P in the store because it looks exactly alike.

Default newb needs help with menu

So I am lost with the directions (how to do it) that you list. Waht is the menu+0? I jsut got my 8300, upgrading from the 8100. I had disabled EVDO/vcast in the other but that was a year ago. When I first got the pone it had the normal menu but then it went into an animated menu. What did I do? Thanks for the help.

You press the menu button first, then you press the number 0, which will take you to the hidden menu.

Normally, when you press menu, it lists bunch of menus starting with 1 but the 0 is the hidden menu you can access on LG phones.

Note: only do this if you do not use vcast currently. if you follow these instructions you can always do it in reverse to restore it to factory settings. Vcast, due to the elements involved, will not work while your phone is on this setting.

Why it works: This will disable EVDO coverage(which is spotty at best now) so your phone will only look for 1x (national enhanced service). Because your phone won't spend all the battery life it has trying desperately to hang on to a weak evdo signal it will use much less power and work more efficiently. After this switch my friend's lg8300 went from being halfway dead by noon to lasting 3 days between charges. This also reduces dropped calls and makes the actual time needed for replacement of battery extend because you aren't charging it every day.

How to do it:
1. from the home screen menu+0
2. security code is 000000
3. Select "network select"
4. select "mode preference"
5. switch to 1x only
6. press end (phone may power cycle)

That's it. enjoy getting the most battery possible battery life out of each charge.

What exactly is EDVO coverage (in dumbed down language)and what does it mean in real everyday use? I only use my phone for phone calls and music.

I don't think they have extended battery for the Chocolate phone. The extended battery would ruin the shape of the phone too much.
