Default Make your lg battery last 4 times longer

Phones: lg 8100, lg 8300, lg 9800, lg chocolate. lg 8600

Note: only do this if you do not use vcast currently. if you follow these instructions you can always do it in reverse to restore it to factory settings. Vcast, due to the elements involved, will not work while your phone is on this setting.

Why it works: This will disable EVDO coverage(which is spotty at best now) so your phone will only look for 1x (national enhanced service). Because your phone won't spend all the battery life it has trying desperately to hang on to a weak evdo signal it will use much less power and work more efficiently. After this switch my friend's lg8300 went from being halfway dead by noon to lasting 3 days between charges. This also reduces dropped calls and makes the actual time needed for replacement of battery extend because you aren't charging it every day.

How to do it:
1. from the home screen menu+0
2. security code is 000000
3. Select "network select"
4. select "mode preference"
5. switch to 1x only
6. press end (phone may power cycle)

That's it. enjoy getting the most battery possible battery life out of each charge.

Thanks for the great tip.

So, if you ever wanted to go back to using VCAST or EV-DO, all you have to do is follow the same procedure but pick something other than 1x Only in "mode preference", right?

yup, follow the same steps and turn it back to "digital-only hybrid" or "EVDO" from 1x.

I made the change. I'll see how much it makes difference. It's kind of hard to measure since I do charge it almost everyday.

the batteries only get about 400 to 600 charges total out of them before they have reached their max life and start being unable to hold a charge throughout the day. with this tip you probably wont have to charge the phone every day which will make the battery last longer before replacement. You can tell the battery for your specific phone needs replacement if you take the battery out, place it on a flat service and attempt to spin it. If it spins a little that is okay, but if it goes like a top and nearly effortlessly spins than the gas has already started escaping from your battery causing it to swell and dictating that you may want to look into a replacement.

That's an interesting indication of how to check whether the battery is good or bad. Good tip.

I have a 6100, looking to upgrade to the 8300. Are any of the accys like the cig cord compatible?? I use an extended life battery (aftermarket) for my 6100...is there one avail for the 8300 yet? 1 last question, what does it mean when they say a phone is unlocked?? Good to do?

I don't know much about the compatibility between the two phones but here is the thread that explains what "unlocked" means.

What does "Unlocked" mean?

The way the batteries are being sold today is they sell the extended battery for 44.99 and the backplate for 4.99. The battery you have is the older style and although it is compatible with the 8300 it won't have the power output of the extended battery made for the 8300. If you wanted to use your old extended bat, all you need is the 4.99 backplate and you are set.

the only thing that works from the 6100 and the 8300 is the earpiece. the car charger was redesigned to be backward compatible but because of the port design, the 8300's car charger works with the 6100 but the 6100's car charger doesn't work with the 8300. The battery and the earpiece are the only things that will work if you change to the 8300
