Default BlueTooth Tethered Modem (Broadband access)

I have been told that the LG VX8350 can be used as a tethered modem. I would like to know how this works, and do you only need the standard usb data cable. What else is required? Is this accessing the Verizon network? Or is this only allowing me to dial up and ISP?

My wife already has this phone, and I was able to get it to connect using Bluetooth to my laptop, but was unable to figure out how to get this thing connected to the internet. Using the bluetooth option I was able to access the Modem feature, but could only get it to basically dial numbers.

Can this phone get my laptop connected to the internet through the bluetooth connection?

The answers are mostly 'Yes'. You can do all these things.

You need the USB cable or bluetooth connection.

If you want to use it as your modem, you normally have to sign up for VZ's Broadband Access plan. If you want to bypass this and use your minutes instead, you have to do minor hack to your phone.

Check the Tips and Tricks section for how to enable any EVDO phone to use as tethered modem. I'm able to do this on my VX8600.

A bit of warning. Bluetooth connection is intermittent if you are not using the modem. I prefer the USB cable.

Ok good info here, thanks. I will probably invest in the cable, but is there a users manual or set of instructions on how to make this happen? What is the difference between using my minutes and using the VZ's Broadband? I think I will need step by step instructions.

Here is the thread that explains step by step.

How to enable EVDO DUN on ANY EVDO capable phone in 10 easy steps!

The difference is, for someone like me who don't have data plan can still use the phone as tethered modem by using my allowed voice monthly minutes. If you have the data plan, you pay the fixed cost for the data and not use your voice minutes.
