Red face 8 GB cards - Has anyone tried on a VX 8550?

Has any one tried using the 8 GB cards (specifically SanDisk microSDHC card SDSDQR-8192-A11M) on the LG Chocolate VX 8550 ? If so are you able to use all the 8 GBs of storage? Both Verizon and LG say that VX 8550 can read only Up to 4GBs. Sandisk recommends their 8 GB micro SDHC card for LG VX 8550 , but also says "Please check with your device manufacturer for details", and I'm not sure whether I would be able to use all the 8 GBs (on the LG VX 8550).

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

/r

Default

After many hours of research, plus trying for days to do a firmware upgrade I have found that the phone itself recognizes the full 8 gig sd card, but when reading the phone memory on the computer using vCast music or Rhapsody, it only recognized 4 gig. I upgraded to firmware release v03 and it made no difference. I also upgraded all the lg drivers. You will only be able to put up to 4 gig on music on your phone. I don't know about any other data types, such as pictures.

Default 8 GB cards - Has anyone tried on a VX 8550?

I have not tried the vCast sync software, but I have had no problems with an 8GB Sandisk microSD card, just copying mp3 files using a card reader/writer attached to my computer USB port.

Be aware that there is a firmware upgrade for the VX8550 (Chocolate 2) available. It is version 4 designated VX855V04 and fixes a number of bugs. This upgrade became available in mid-August 2008 at Verizon corporate retail stores. It takes about 30 minutes to be installed.

The best feature of v04 is that it plays CD albums in track order rather than in alphabetical order. Very nice if you've ripped one of your CDs where the songs need to be played in order. For example, a themed album like the Eagles' Desperado or Hotel California -- or virtually any movie soundtrack or stage production or symphonic work with sequential movements. It's nice to hear the Overture first and the Finale last, rather than vice versa.

BTW, the v04 firmware also seems to have an enhanced picture editor which lets you crop, resize and rotate photos. The only problem is that trying to save an edited photo to either the microSD card or the phone's internal memory causes the phone to crash and reset. I'm not sure if this is just my phone, but I suspect is its a problem with the firmware. (Fortunately, your un-edited picture is not deleted, so no harm is done other than to tease you with a nice feature that almost works.)
