Default Free WAP on LG-VX8600

Free WAP

The information was taken from this website for the VX8300 but it works perfectly on the 8600: http://vx8300.blogspot.com/2006/08/f...on-vx8300.html

First you have to make sure that you can edit your WAP settings. By default they are locked. It is remarkably simple to unlock them.
  1. Connect to your phone using BitPim.
  2. Click View > View Filesystem. This will add a filesystem link to the left pane. Click on it.
  3. Navigate to /OWS in your filesystem. Right click on paramtable1.fil and save it to your hard drive. Keep an unmodified backup copy of this file in case something goes wrong.
  4. Open your new copy of paramtable1.fil in a hex editor. A good Windows hex editor is XVI32 (http://www.chmaas.handshake.de/delph...2.htm#download). A good OSX hex editor is 0xED (http://www.apple.com/downloads/macos...ools/0xed.html). Change the third byte from "00" to "20". (Thanks to Rodstree for figuring this out.) Save the copy.
  5. Right click on paramtable1.fil back in BitPim. Overwrite it with your new modified version.
  6. Once the file is transferred, turn off and turn on your phone.
Now you have to update the wap settings to make them work with your proxy.
  1. Press OK to open the menu on your phone. Press 0, and then six more zeros to open the service menu.
  2. Press (8)WAP Setting
  3. Under Proxy Address Setting and Proxy Port Setting, you'll find Primary and Secondary configurations. The Primary Address goes with the Primary Port, and likewise with the secondaries. Edit the Primary and Secondary settings with the gateways of your choice.
  4. Change the Homepage to http://mobile.google.com or another suitable WAP homepage.
  5. Voila! Access the Minibrowser. Free WAP!
There are many ways to get a free proxy working. One that seems to be popular is HoTTProxy. You can also find free WAP proxies with a lot of patience, trial and error.

Default No Web Access VX8600

I've followed the steps in the tutorial with great care. Editing the system file went smoothly; I am now able to checnge the proxy address, home page, etc. However, after multiple attempts to gain access, I am at a loss. My phone attempts to connect, but times out and closes its connection before ever getting to a homepage.

I have tried some 10 or 12 different proxy addresses -same result.

What could be happening -what am I missing?

The phone is using:
SW version T86VZV02
Browser version 6.2.3.2

Any suggestions??? How about a KNOWN working WAP proxy address?

Any help would be appreciated

I've tried this on my VX8600. Editing the system was the easy part. It appears Verizon must have caught on and blocked it from working because I also get the "Network Connection Lost" message.

Here are some other proxies if you want to try. These are known ones that works with VG Voyager.

Must be a Verizon thing. Using the proxies you've listed, I now get a message to dial *611 for internet access -of course that's Verizon customer service.

Thanks for the info though...

OK. I was able to get the FREE WAP to work on my LG VX8600.

There is one more step in here that I forgot.

You have to change the Primary Port to 80 (default is 8080).

This works for google page - wap.google.com
