iPhone Accused of Copycatting Korean Model

An info-tech Web site Engadget (www.engadget.com) yesterday said that the iPhone is very similar to the LG KE850, which has a moniker of the ``Prada phone.’’ While comparing looks and touch-sensitive keypads of the two models with big pictures, the site asks for responses from readers on their similarities. ``Two sparsely-buttoned large, touch screen phones: the Apple iPhone and the LG KE850. Apple has never admitted to copying.

In fact, the name "iPhone" is trademarked by Cisco for some wifi phone they had planned way before Apple came up with the idea. They are still fighting over the name.

New Premium LG Phone Dressed for Success

LG Electronics’ new Prada phone is bound to be a success thanks to 94 years of design experience from the Italian fashion brand, Prada business development director Giacomo Ovidi told reporters in Milan Wednesday. The high-end gadget has been attracting phone and fashion industry hype since it was unveiled at the 3 GSM World Congress in Barcelona last week, where the LG booth was crowded with people gathered to catch a glimpse of the phone. LG Electronics decided the future of cell phones is in design since the worldwide success of its sleek Chocolate phone. Ovidi said several phone manufacturers approached Prada but were turned away since they only wanted to borrow the Prada brand name, while LG Electronics proposed co-development from the start. LG Electronics and Italian fashion brand Prada put on show the new LG Prada mobile phone at the 3GSM World Congress, on February 12 in Barcelona./AFP The phone’s key feature reflecting Prada input is the touch screen -- a design feature that also distinguishes Apple’s new iPhone and the Samsung Electronics Ultra Smart F700. Prada designed the icons on the touch screen in black and white rather than color to give the phone a classier feel. All Prada phones are made at LG Electronics’ facility in Pyongtaek. The production and sales figures will be a closely guarded secret to preserve an aura of exclusivity surrounding the handset. Ovidi said it will be sold at only 20 stores among the 300 Prada stores worldwide including Paris, New York, LA, Hong Kong and Singapore, to give the impression that Prada Phones are exclusive fashion accessories. LG Electronics, for its part, will sell the phones in dedicated booths at its cell phone outlets. The phone will cost some 600 Euro (about W730,000).
