Default Incompatible peripherals and accessories

I'm only ranting here about what I think Verizon can do better, not for encouraging people to move away from Verizon.

Last time I upgraded from Audiovox to another Audiovox phone, I had to purchase a whole new set of accessories (car chagers, etc.) Even when I upgraded to my latest LG phone, I had to buy another set and not compatible with my wife's other LG phone.

In Korea, all phones, regardless of brand and carriers all support standard 24-pin connector. It makes it easy for people to have access to a charger when your battery is running low. Some public places offer free charging station because everybody's phones can be plug into the same connector.

In Verizon's case, it's not an oversight, but a requirement from their accessory group that the interface be different on all phones, just so they can sell new set of accessories whenever people change their phone.

Call them greedy, or call the genius.

From consumer point of view, I would like to have one charger for all the Verizon phones in my household and not have to get a new one whenever I upgrade my phones.

It isn't Verizon that makes the choice with that type of stuff. Car chargers are really the only thing that applies. Cases and holsters are fitted to each phone's body.

Anyway, VERIZON does NOT decided what charging system goes into a phone, the MANUFACTURER does! Samsung, other than the new u740, has the same charger in a wide range of phones. All the way back to the A650 (basic phone that was given away for free), the chargers are the same as the newer models (u540, a870, etc.)

Having been on "the other side" I think I may know more about this than the store owner.

I had met with Verizon on numerous occasions and they have told me in person that it is with intention that they want to keep the interface different.

My company at the time proposed a mini USB interface for all phones that we would make, which would make it easy to interface to many of the mini USB cards, and also use it to charge the phone. Unfortunately, Verizon not only rejected the idea, they forbid it.

That doesn't make much sense to me. ALL Moto phones have a mini USB system. Why would they allow them to do it, but not your company?

I don't mean as offering additional mini USB interface but let it be the only interface for data transfer and charging.

Does all moto phones have the same miniUSB interface and no other connector? I've never used Moto phones before. That's why I'm asking.

Yes, all of them have the same one. LG is moving in the same direction, with the older VX5300, 8300 and 3450L being the only remaining models with the older system. As mentioned, Samsung is fairly universal but may be moving to the USB system on the 740. We'll see with their new models.

Moto will be breaking the mold with a micro USB system in the new RAZR2.
