Angry Data charges when sending PIX messages

I switched to a Treo 700p a few months ago because of the PDA capabilities (scheduler, tasks, memos, contacts, etc.) and not for its data capabilities.

Since I have been a customer with Verizon I have had messaging as part of my subscription.

It seems that now they have started charging me data usage for sending picture messages.

I have called several time to 611 and I the reason they have for me is that my phone uses "data connection" to send picture messages.

I think this is just not right, or is it just me?

I signed up for messaging. That includes a number of messages including picture messages. If I stay within the contracted number of messages why should I be charged for sending a picture message?

Has any one experienced this? is it a "feature" of the Treo?

Any thoughts will be appreciated.

Regards,
IgoR

It seems Verizon is charging special data charge on all so called "Smart Phones".

That's how they are able to subsidize these expensive phones.

For example, Motorola Q, they will let you have this phone for only $99. (Free if you qualify for $100 upgrade) but ONLY if you sign up for their special data plan, on top of your regular voice plan.

Typically, the users of these Smart Phones are business users and they either can afford it or have their company pay for them.

Usually, the New Every Two discount does not combine with the "advanced device credit" when you sign up for a data plan, but there are specific areas where that does apply.

I have not seen your specific situation, but I think I know why. Check your bill and look at your monthly charges. Your text plan will say either "camera" or "non-camera" in its title. I dont' think smartphones are conisidered picture messaging devices.
