Samsung A990 3.2-Megapixel Camera Phone Released for Verizon

Thu Jul 06, 2006 10:30 am

<!-- google_ad_section_start --> Verizon Wireless set a new standard for mobile camera phones today with the availability of the Samsung A990, the first 3.2-megapixel digital camera phone available in the U.S.
Enabling photo enthusiasts to take high-resolution photos of a similar print quality as a standalone digital camera, the A990 boasts a number of media features, including video recording capabilities, VCAST to view video and VCAST Music to download music directly to the phone and Bluetooth wireless technology, to allow a customer to print pictures wirelessly from the A990 to a Bluetooth-enabled printer basic print profile.

Using a unique design, the A990 looks first like a phone and then, when the screen is rotated 180 degrees, like a camera with a high resolution screen and features such as a flash and in-camera photo editing software.

As a strong VCAST multimedia phone with full music, video and game capabilities on a high-resolution screen, customers play music on their wireless phones - the same device they have come to rely upon for entertainment, information and mobile communication. VCAST customers can browse, preview, download and play high-quality digital music from the A990 over Verizon Wireless' broadband network, or from a personal computer.

With VCAST on the A990, customers can view video clips from the hottest names in entertainment, news, sports and more in the palms of their hands. VCAST is currently available to more than 150 million Americans from coast to coast.

The A990 also supports Verizon Wireless' VZ Navigator, a tool for customers that includes mapping, audible turn-by-turn navigation and the ability to find over 14 million points of interest. Other key features include:

- 3.2-megapixel digital camera with flash, auto focus, picture editor, PictBridge Digital Printing, zoom, TV-out and 180 degree swivel screen
- VCAST Music - download songs over the air or transfer your own music collection onto removable microSD memory cards
- Device supports dedicated external Music keys for easy use and listening pleasure
- VCAST Video and 3D Games - download or stream video from the best names in news, sports, entertainment and more or download the latest 3D games from top providers
- Get It Now-capable - download games, ring tones, wallpapers and more
- Mobile Web 2.0-capable - customizable, enhanced wireless access to the latest in news, sports, weather and more
Camcorder with up to one-hour recording time
- TXT, PIX and FLIX Messaging capabilities
- Bluetooth wireless technology supports a basic print profile as well as headset, hands free, serial port and dial up networking profiles
- Expandable memory with microSD memory card slot
- Voice dialing with advanced speech recognition
- Quick Search support to find menu items and contacts
- Business Card Scan capability
- Dimensions: 3.80" x 1.88" x .82", 4.40 ounces with standard battery

Let us know how you like it after you receive and have had some time to use it. I'm up for new phone upgrade in September and haven't decided which phone to get yet.

Default I own it

the phone is amazing. I have been playing with it for about a month and a half now and everything about the phone is nice. It texts well, the pictures are awesome, and the menus (although about the same as the other standard vzw menus) are a little easier to read. The only issue i've seen is the bluetooth pairing issues with the moto hs 850. when you start a call on the handset and transfer it to the headset you either drop the call or lose audio followed by dropping the call. I'm sure it will be fixed by the first sw release but i am willing to go out on a limb and say that even since the chocolate release this is still the best phone vzw carries

Good to know. Such a strong endoresement for this phone!
I'm up for renewal in less than a month. I'm comtemplating between this one or one of the smart phone, so I don't have to carry my PDA with me, which I don't.

Also the phone has the business card reader which is really sweet and you can talk to the phone while in a pix message and it will convert your voice into type so you can speak your message instead of mashing the keypad.

Also the calculator has several modes. Normal, very in depth Tip calculator, temperature converter (farenheit->celcius), length converter (feet->meters) , weight converter (ounces->pounds, gram, ton) , area converter(inches->feet,meters) , volume converter(gallons->Liters, cubic feet), and currency converter (other countries). not too shabby. this is the most in depth calculator i have ever seen on any phone.

At this moment, I'm leaning heavily on this phone. Hopefully, it won't be too expensive after my $100 credit that VZW gives me after 22 months into 2 year contract.
