Default Disabling MP3 capability

I heard VZW is now only selling phones that no longer play user added MP3 song and allow it to only play WMA format, downloaded from over the air. Is there any truth to this rumor? I heard this was the case with VX8300 phone.

That is half true. Verizon is blocking the usage of mp3 format but it won't limit music to just over the air. If you download songs in a wma format from p2p sites or use nero or windows media player to convert avi or mp3 into wma then it will work fine. Verizon made a large business deal with Microsoft so they are using their software exclusively but they will never block you from using the computer to dump music into the card

the no longer able to play mp3 is true of all verizon phones that have music but the v710 and e815. Even your lgvx8100's new version of software gets rid of the mp3 player and replaces it with a wma player. Fortunately there is a fix for that. I'm going to put it in the tips and tricks section.

I assume the reason behind forcing people to use wma format over mp3 is DRM (Digital Rights Management).

It's kind of sneaky for Verizon to coerce customers with old VX8100 phones to upgrade without letting them know in advance that they will not be able to play the MP3 files anymore.

We have to tell people in advance that they will lose mp3 format and it will switch to wma but so long as you convert the file you won't need a DRM like a said b4 though, check the tips section soon as i will start rolling out all kinds of stuff including how to re allow mp3 after the new software is put into your phone.

If you didn't have one of those two phone though, all you need is nero or another audio program to change the file type. On no phone that verizon sells to you absolutely have to buy the music

the music essential kit that vzw stores sell allows you to convert different file types to wma so that will help
