How to use Bluetooth Dial-Up Network (Windows)

Requirements Before proceeding with the set-up instructions, first confirm that the basic requirements have been met.
Basic Requirements: - Bluetooth-enabled laptop (embedded or USB Adapter) with Windows© 2000 or higher.
- Make sure that the embedded or external Bluetooth adapter is fully set-up and enabled prior to installing VZAccess Manager.
- NOTE: Verizon Wireless does not provide support for Bluetooth embedded or external adapters. Please refer to the manufacturer's manual that came with your Bluetooth-enabled laptop for Bluetooth troubleshooting assistance.
- Bluetooth Dial-Up Networking (DUN) capable Device.
- To verify that your device is Bluetooth DUN capable, check with one of the following Bluetooth functionality charts:
- A subscription to Broadband Access Connect.
- VZAccess Manager (version 5.7.7 and above) downloaded and installed on the Bluetooth-enabled laptop.
- NOTE: To verify what version of VZAccess Manager you are running, open VZAccess Manager and select Help, then select About VZAccess Manager.
- Supporting Drivers for your Bluetooth DUN-capable phone.
- NOTE: Drivers are not required for Bluetooth DUN, but are required for tethering.
Bluetooth Dial-Up Networking Set-up
NOTE: Set-up steps vary depending on what version of Bluetooth software you are running on your laptop.
Icons Table | | Disabled | | | Enabled | - Plug the Bluetooth enabling USB device into your laptop (if applicable). To verify that you have Bluetooth on your laptop, look for one of the disabled or enabled icons on your Windows Systems Tray. (Refer to the Icons Table.)
- Install the compatible version of VZAccess Manager (5.7.7 or above) on your laptop. You can obtain the software from the Mobile Office Kit CD-ROM or via the VZAccess Manager Download website.
- Once VZAccess Manager is installed, open the application. From the top navigation bar, select Options, then Run Wizard.

- Click Next to continue.

- Select Detect WWAN device only (1xEVDO/1xRTT/CDMA). Then click Next.

- Click Next to detect a WWAN device.

- Under Connectivity Options, select Bluetooth, then click Next to continue.

- Click the Bluetooth Setup button to pair your laptop with your device.

Bluetooth DUN Set-up Using WIDCOMM Bluetooth Software- On the Bluetooth Setup screen, make sure the first option is selected and click Next to continue.

- On the Bluetooth Service Selection screen, select Dial-up Networking and click Next to continue.

- On the Bluetooth Device Selection screen, you must run your handset in Discoverable mode. To turn your device to Discoverable mode, find your device using the instructions in the Make Your Device Discoverable section. Select the device you wish to enable for Dial-Up Networking and click Next to continue.

- Click Finish to finalize the set-up process and connect to your device.

- After you've finished the set-up process, you will be requested to create a paired relationship by entering a PIN code. Once the code has been entered, click OK to continue.

A pairing request should display on your device. Select Yes to accept, then enter the PIN code to authenticate the connection. Press OK to continue.

If the PIN was accepted, you will see the message Paired Successfully. Press OK to continue. On the screen Paired Devices, you can verify that the device has been successfully enabled to connect to the laptop.

- From VZAccess Manager, select My device is paired and is ready to be detected, and then press Next to continue.

VZAccess Manager will now detect your Bluetooth-enabled device.

- Once VZAccess Manager is configured to use your modem, press Next to continue.

- Enter your mobile device phone number and press Next to continue.

- Select Finish to complete the VZAccess Manager process.

Connecting to Your Device- From the VZAccess Manager menu screen, press the Connect WWAN button.

- Press Continue to establish a BroadbandAccess or NationalAccess connection.

After pressing Continue, you will instantly be connected.

Set-up Steps Using Windows XP SP2 Bluetooth Software- Your device must be in Discoverable mode. If your device is not in Discoverable mode, refer to the instructions in the Make Your Device Discoverable section to complete this action.
- Check the box for My device is set up and ready to be found and press Next to continue.

- The Bluetooth Device Wizard will now try to discover your device. Once your device is found, select it and press Next to continue.


- You will need to create a passkey for the device. Select Let me choose my own passkey and enter an 8 to 16-digit passkey of your choice. Press Next to continue.

- Your laptop will now try to connect to your device.
 - You should get a pairing request for your device. Select Yes to accept, enter the passkey code to authenticate the connection, then press OK to continue. If the passkey was accepted, you will see the Paired Successfully message displayed.
- Press OK to continue. The device is now enabled to connect to the laptop.
- A pop-up confirmation that the pairing was successfully completed will display.

- From VZAccess Manager, select My device is paired and is ready to be detected, and then press Next to continue.

VZAccess Manager will now detect your Bluetooth-enabled device.

- Once VZAccess Manager is configured to use your modem, press Next to continue.

- Enter your mobile device phone number and press Next to continue.

- Select Finish to complete the VZAccess Manager process.

Connecting to Your Device- From the VZAccess Manager menu screen, press the Connect WWAN button.

- Press Continue to establish a BroadbandAccess or NationalAccess connection.

Make Your Device Discoverable Below are the steps to make your device discoverable to your laptop. If you do not see your device listed below, please check your handset User Guide for Bluetooth Instructions.
NOTE: To use USB tethering, some devices require the user to change the PC Connection setting back to "USB."
LG VX8100- Press Menu.
- Navigate to the Settings & Tools menu.

- Select Bluetooth and press OK.

- Select Power and press OK. If Off is selected, select On and press OK.

- Select My Visibility and press OK.

- Select Show To All and press OK.

- The device will now be discoverable for 3 minutes only.

LG VX8300 and LG VX8500- Press Menu.
- Navigate to Settings & Tools Menu.
- Select Bluetooth and press OK.
- Press the left soft key to turn Bluetooth on.
- Press the right soft key to select Settings.
- Select Discovery Mode and press OK.
- Select On or Visible and press OK. Selecting "On" or "Visible" allows other Bluetooth devices to discover your handset for 60 seconds.
LG VX9800- Press the center OK button to access the menu.
- Navigate to the Settings & Tools tab.
- Select PC Connection and press OK.
- Under PC Connection, select Bluetooth and press OK.
- Return to the "Settings & Tools" menu, select Bluetooth, and press OK.
- Select Power and press OK. If Off, select On and press OK.
- Under the Bluetooth menu, select My Visibility and press OK.
- Select Shown to All and press OK. The device will now be visible to all other devices for 3 minutes.
Motorola e815- Press the center soft key button to access the menu.
- Scroll to Settings and press OK.
- Scroll to Connection and press OK.
- Select Bluetooth Link and press OK.
- Select Setup and press OK.
- Select Power.
- Use the right soft key to change power to "On". The Bluetooth indicator should display on the phone (this icon may be visible either on the main screen or the top display bar).
- Select Find Me and press OK to allow other Bluetooth devices to discover the handset for 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, the Bluetooth indicator will no longer display.
Motorola RAZR V3m and V3c- Press Menu.
- Navigate to the Settings & Tools tab and press OK.
- Select Connections and press OK.
- Select Bluetooth and press OK.
- Select Setup and press OK.
- Select Power. Use the right soft key to change power to "On". The Bluetooth indicator should display on the phone (this icon may be visible either on the main screen or the top display bar).
- Select Find Me and press OK. "Fine Me" allows other Bluetooth devices to discover your device for 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, the Bluetooth indicator will no longer be displayed.
Motorola Q- From the Home screen, select Start.
- Select the Bluetooth icon and press the OK key.
- Select Bluetooth Manager and press the OK key.
- Scroll to Settings and press the OK key.
- Under Status toggle to Bluetooth ON, select "Allow other Bluetooth devices to see this phone."
- Press Done to complete setup.
Palm® Treo™ 700p- Press the Home key.
- Select Bluetooth.
- Select On. The Bluetooth indicator should display on the phone.
- Select Visible from the drop down menu.
Palm® Treo™ 700wx- From the main screen, tap Start.
- Select Settings.
- Tap Bluetooth.
- Check the Turn on Bluetooth box.
- Check the Make this device discoverable to other devices box.
- Tap OK.
Samsung SCH-a930 and Samsung SCH-a990- Press the center OK button to access the menu.
- Navigate to the Settings & Tools tab and select Phone Settings then press OK.
- Select PC Connection and press OK.
- Select Bluetooth and press OK.
- Press CLR to return to the previous "Settings & Tools" menu.
- Select Bluetooth and press OK.
- Press the left soft key to turn Bluetooth on.
- Press the right soft key to select Settings.
- Select Discovery Mode and press OK.
- Select On or Visible and press OK. "On" or "Visible" allows other Bluetooth devices to discover the handset for 60 seconds.
Verizon Wireless PN-820- From the home screen, select Start.
- Select Settings and press OK.
- Select Connections and press OK.
- Select Bluetooth, then press OK.
- Press the left soft key to select Discoverable and press Done.
