Another option might be that A930 supports wma file formats instead of MP3, so e-mail yourself an wma file instead of mp3 file.

Hmm...the phone also stores WMAs as .qcp files.

Will those hidden menus allow you to use .mp3, .wma or .qcp files as ringtones? Thanks!

That's a bummer....

I wonder if it's only like this on A930.

I'll have to do a bit of research on the .qcp format to see why the phone converts everything to .qcp and doesn't allow you to choose it for your ringtone.

Arrow a990

I have a SAM A990 and I have the same problem of not being able to make my own ringtones. I have been trying the different ways on here for the A930 but no luck. I will try this one, maybe it will work.

Post A990

No luck with setting mp3 as ringtones. Although, I can get to the mp3 player now, but if you close the phone it turns off.

Smile poor quality

hey! thanks for the info on the LG vx8600. i didnt think that would actually work but it did! the only thing i have trouble with is that the ringtone sounds real crappy. i used Nero Wave Editor to make my :30 sound clip. and they have enhancements i can make but i have no idea what enhancements to do to make it sound more real. it sounds like i recorded it from a speaker or something. can anyone help at all? id really appreciate it!!!

It sounds like everybody else says the same thing.

One thing I noticed was that when I lower the volume, it sounds quite good. My guess is that the crappy portion is coming from the original song being too loud for the small handset speakers.

If you can actually control the sound level and not let it saturate, it should sound OK even with the speaker setting at the highest level.

About the ringtone quality on the V3M when you send yourself an mp3 via email:

It goes in at the quality of a voice recording -- as if you held the phone next to a stereo speaker and made a voice recording (which you also can do).

If you use this website to do, basically, the same thing:

http://www.funformobile.com/pages/ri...adRingtone.php

you will be able to upload a short mp3 file that somehow gets converted to a .mid file and loses almost no quality.

I think the cost is the same. In both cases, it is only the cost of receiving a message.

I don't understand how that website does this. Wish I did. It would be nice to be able to convert mp3 files generally this way, since then they could play off the micro-sd card.
