I have a V-Cast capable Samsung a990, and just tried this little trick.

No luck. Every time I send the message, I get the same note telling me to go to the vzwpix website and "follow the directions" (which do not, in fact, exist).

Anyone have any advice on how I can overcome this? I'd like some decent ringers on my phone, as opposed to the junk that came with it or the less-than-impressive and way too expensive ones Verizon tries to force you into downloading.

Here is a direction for how to get it working on a930. And there is someone who says that it has worked for him/her. Check it out.

Excellent! I gave that a shot and it works very well. Part of the problem was my phone randomly deciding that no, it did not want to receive PIX messages. Once that hurdle was overcome, changing up the encoding as described got it to be nicer about setting the sounds as ringtones.

Very happily confirmed that the suggested method does work on the a990, too.

I made some ringtones using DJToneXPress. Sent it to my phone. The first one I sent was saved in the My Sounds folder with no problem. When I try to save the second one, I get a message saying it already exists and an option to Rename or Overwrite. I tried both options and cannot not find the ringtone anywhere. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Default How to unlock Samsung a990

Great work on obtaining the unlock codes for all those phones......I was wondering if you were able to get the code to enable the MP3 mode for the Samsung a990

Default didn't work for Samsung a990

[Using Samsung a990]
I followed your suggestion to e-mail myself at number@vzwpix.com with the audio attachment......the message was delivered and I was able to download the clip to my phone. However, the phone downloaded the clip to the "Get It Now, Get Tunes & Tones, My Sounds" folder and not the my sounds folder under "Tools & Settings, Sound Settings, Call Sounds, Call Ringtone" folder (where I would be able to set the clip as my ringtone). The Get It Now folder does not allow me to set the audio clip as my ringtone - any suggestions? Thanks for the help!

See above posts for workarounds for Samsung a930.

Another person was having similar problem as you using Samsung a990 but was able to get it working.

Default A little late, but...

I'm replying a bit late, but I discovered that Adobe Audition will export an .mp3 audio out as Midi audio...which makes the whole process a lot easier. The previous method works, but I found this to be much less taxing, and I can store an unlimited number on my miniSD card.
