I agree, Backup Assistant is one of the greatest things Verizon offers. However, this app does not support Blackberries and Smartphones such as the Omnia, Touch Pro, Diamond, and Saga.
For Blackberry phones, I encourage you to install Blackberry Desktop from the CD provided with all BBs. From there, you can sync your contacts to your computer.
For Windows Mobile phones, go to Dashwire.com and sign up for this free service. After signing up, you will be sent a text so you can directly download the CAB file and install it on your phone. I personally use this. This app will backup contacts, ringtones, texts, photos, videos, EVERYTHING.
For those that have a Verizon non-smartphone, register your phone at myverizon.com. This will make the app free, otherwise you'll pay $1.99 a month for the app (although I believe $2 a month is a small price to pay to save your contacts. BUT go the extra mile and sign up.
After you've signed up, follow these steps on your phone:
1. Menu
2. Media Center
3. Browse & Download or Tools on the Go (depending on what phone you have)
4. Get New Apps
5. Best Sellers
6. Backup Assistant
7. Download and follow the steps
Have fun!
