Note: Standalone Mode is also required if you wish to play music on your phone while aboard an airplane.

Whenever you purchase a song directly from your V CAST Music phone, you also receive a second, higher quality copy of the song sent to your account on the V CAST Music Online Store. Please download this song file to your music library and re-sync the song to your V CAST Music phone using a compatible USB cable.
- Do I use voice minutes when I access the V CAST Music store to manage alerts, browse, preview, purchase, and download music? Yes, unless you subscribe to a V CAST V-Pak plan, are a prepay customer, or have a V CAST Music capable PDA/Smartphone. (Note – No airtime is deducted from your airtime allowance for these V CAST Music activities if you have the V-Cast V-Pak feature activated on your account or if you are a prepay customer). If you exceed your allowance minutes while browsing and downloading, you will be charged the same rate as voice minutes over your airtime allowance. You do not use voice minutes when you play music on your phone that you've previously downloaded or transferred from your PC. If you have a V CAST Music capable PDA/smartphone, using your phone for these activities will be billed as data usage per your data plan/feature or billed at 1.5¢ per KB if you do not subscribe to a data plan/feature.
- How long does it take to download music? Most songs take approximately one minute to download. Download times will vary based on the size of the file.
- Can I play my MP3 songs on a V CAST Music phone? Yes. Newer V CAST Music phones, such as the Chocolate by LG and the MOTOKRZR K1m, which have V CAST Music Version 01.02.000 or higher do play unprotected MP3 files directly. You can load music to these phones by either syncing or by “sideloading” to the MY_MUSIC folder on the memory card. (To format the memory card, turn on your phone, insert the card into the phone and then remove it. Save your music to the MY_MUSIC folder.) Note: only unprotected MP3 files can be played after being sideloaded. Protected MP3 files must be synced in order to be played on the phone.
Our V CAST Music phones with previous versions of the software can only play songs in the WMA format. However, using V CAST Music Manager or Windows Media Player 10 (or higher) and the appropriate USB cable and software, you can sync your MP3 files to the V CAST Music phone. During the sync process, MP3 files will be automatically converted to the WMA format that you can then play on the V CAST Music phone. The original MP3 files on your PC will remain in the MP3 format.

- I have purchased and downloaded a song to my phone from the V CAST Music mobile catalog and saved it to my memory card. Can I take that memory card and play it on another phone? No. The license for V CAST Music files purchased and downloaded directly to the phone resides on the phone that it was loaded to. Therefore, the song will not play on another phone.
- How do I move songs from the phone internal memory to or from the memory card? You can move songs between your phone’s internal memory and a memory card in either of two ways.
- From Manage Music:
- Go to the Get It Now menu, select Get Tunes & Tones, (or Music & Tones), select Manage Music and select Songs
- Select a song
- Press Options
- Select Move song
- If the song is on the phone’s internal memory, the display will show “Move song to memory card/phone memory?”
- If the song is on the memory card, the display will show “Move song to phone memory?”
- Select Yes.
- From My Music:
- Go to the Get It Now menu, select Get Tunes & Tones, (or Music & Tones), select My Music and select Songs
- Select a song
- Press Options
- Select Move
- From my phone, I purchased a song, but I lost my connection or lost battery power while I was downloading the file, how do I finish the download? Until the file is successfully downloaded to your phone, the file will remain available by selecting Get Tunes and Tones (or Music & Tones), /Get V CAST Music/Download and selecting the song and downloading.
- I’d like to play music on my phone while I’m on an airline flight. Is there some way I can use the music player but shut off the phone’s ability to make and receive calls? Yes, to set your phone so that you can use your phone as a music player, select “System”, select “Standalone Mode”, select “On”. To turn the phone’s radio function back on, select Standalone Mode Off. (Note – Some models display “Airplane Mode” instead of “Standalone”)
- What is Standalone Mode and when should I use it? “Standalone Mode” is when the phone’s radio function is turned off, which means that you can not make or receive calls. However, the music player still operates. (Note – Some models display “Airplane Mode” instead of “stand alone”)
Note: incoming calls will go to voice mail. Standalone Mode is useful in airplanes or other situations where the phone’s radio should be off while allowing the user to play music. Additionally, in areas where there is no signal available, the phone may keep trying to find a signal, which may impact the music player function. Activating the Standalone Mode eliminates this issue.
- Can I get V CAST Music on any VZW phone? Currently V CAST Music is available on select Verizon Wireless phones, but not all. Visit our V CAST Music phones page.
- Can I play music I already own on my V CAST Music phone? Music in WMA and MP3 format can be synced to your phone from V CAST Music Manager or Windows Media Player 10 using the appropriate USB cable and drivers. Note: the MP3 files will be converted to the WMA format, , if necessary. Protected MP3 files must sync in order to be played on the phone.
- Do any V CAST Music phones play MP3 files without converting them? Yes. Newer V CAST Music phones, such as the Chocolate by LG and the MOTOKRZR K1m, which have V CAST Music Version 01.02.00 or higher do play unprotected MP3 files directly. Protected MP3 files must sync in order to be played on the phone.
- How can I identify which V CAST Music version is on my phone? Go to the V CAST Music home page (select Get It Now, Select Get Tunes & Tones (or Music & Tones), select Get V CAST Music), then select Help. Then scroll the bottom of the Help screen to the section titled About V CAST Music. The version number is listed there. Versions marked 01.02.000 or higher support the direct playback of unprotected MP3 files.
- How do I control the volume of songs on my phone? Use the volume controls on your phone or headset if it is so equipped.
- How many songs can my V CAST Music phone hold? The number of songs that can be stored in your V CAST Music phone depends on the size of the memory (both internal and on the memory card), what, if any, other applications are using that memory and the size of the individual song files.
- What kind of accessories can I buy for my V CAST Music phone? In addition to the Music Kit and memory cards, you will find that stereo headsets, pouches, speakers and more are available from Verizon Wireless stores or at www.VerizonWireless.com.
- If I get a new phone, can I play the music that I purchased on my old phone from V CAST Music on my new phone? No. The license for a purchased V CAST Music file is downloaded directly and resides on the phone it was originally loaded onto. Therefore, the song will not play on another phone. However, when you purchase music from the phone you are provided 2 files:
- One file that is downloaded to the phone.
- One file that is available to you on V CAST Music Online Store.
- This file is a version for playing on your PC and serves as a back up to your phone's music database and can be downloaded to your PC and then synchronized to your phone.
To access the online store requires Windows XP® and V CAST Music Manager or Windows Media Player version 10 or higher. Once the songs have been downloaded to your computer, you can use the Music Kit for your phone (requires a separate purchase) to sync music to your phone. Music purchased from V CAST Music is protected and therefore cannot be transferred from phone to phone via a memory card.
