About using your PC with V CAST Music
  1. What is V CAST Music Manager? V CAST Music Manager is a free PC application available to make enjoying your digital music easier. With Music Manager, you can easily manage your music on your PC easily sync music to your V CAST Music phone, consolidate various music files types into your library, rip music from your CDs and burn CDs. You can download V CAST Music Manager for free from www.verizonwireless.com/musicmanager. Music Manager is supported on PCs using Windows XP or Windows Vista operating systems.
  2. Does V CAST Music work with PCs using the Windows Vista operating system? Currently, you can access the V CAST Music online store through Windows Media Player 11 on a PC with the Windows Vista operating system and browse, search, purchase, and download music. you can also play songs, rip from and burn songs to CDs. However to sync music to your V CAST Music capable phone, you should download V CAST Music Manager. Music Manager provides the necessary software to enable syncing. Once V CAST Music Manager is installed, you can use either V CAST Music Manager or Windows Media Player to sync. V CAST Music Manager provides a simpler, easier way to both manage your music on your PC and sync music to your V CAST Music phone. V CAST Music Manager is a free download available at www.verizonwireless.com/musicmanager.
  3. Can I use Windows Media® Player with V CAST Music? You can use Windows Media Player 10 or highter with V CAST Music.
  4. Where can I find a cable to transfer songs to my phone? In order to transfer music from your PC to your Verizon Wireless V CAST Music capable phone, you will need a compatible USB data cable that matches the make and model of your phone. A cable is included in the Verizon Wireless Music Essentials Kit, which is available at Verizon Wireless Communications Stores and online at www.verizonwireless.com.
  5. Which V CAST Music capable phones are supported by V CAST Music Manager? All V CAST Music capable phones are supported by V CAST Music Manager. The application is also available in a generic; "no-phone" build for users wishing to experience the application in the absence of a phone with which they can actually sync music. This version is available for as a free download with other versions from the principle V CAST Music Manager download site: http://www.verizonwireless.com/musicmanager.
  6. Can I load MP3s from my PC music library onto my phone? Using V CAST Music Manager or Windows Media Player 10 (or higher) and the appropriate USB cable and software, MP3 files can be synced to a V CAST Music phone. During the sync process, MP3 files are automatically converted to WMA format, if necessary. The original MP3 files on your PC will remain in the MP3 format.
  7. Can I play unprotected AAC formatted music with Music Manager? Can I sync that kind of music to my phone? Unprotected AAC music files (where the file extension is .m4a) can be played on your PC and can be synced to your phone using V CAST Music Manager. In the sync process, unprotected AAC (.m4a) files are automatically converted to WMA format, if necessary, to play on your phone. The original .m4a files remain on your PC in the unprotected AAC format. NOTE: protected AAC files (such as music purchased on iTunes®) are not recognized by V CAST Music Manager and can not be played or synced through V CAST Music Manager.
  8. What else can V CAST Music Manager do? V CAST Music Essentails Manager users are able to:
      • Use the "V CAST Get Music" tab to purchase music (eligibility requirements apply).
      • Use the "Music on my PC" tab to:
          • Search for music in your library
          • Play music from your library
          • Browse playlists
          • Create playlists
          • Control the "sync list"
          • Manager "smart playlists"
          • Add music to the application's music database (which is kept in sync with the Windows Media Player music database)
          • Burn CDs
          • Access Wizards
      • Use the "Music on my Phone" tab to:
          • Sync music to a V CAST Music capable phone
          • Monitor their phone's internal and removable card memory
      • Use the "Music on my CD" tab to:
          • Play music from a CD
          • Rip music from a CD
      • Get help from integrated "Show Me How" resources.
  9. What are the system requirements for the V CAST Music Manager? To access the V CAST Music Online Store from a PC or to transfer music from your PC to a Verizon Wireless V CAST Music capable phone, you will need the following:
      • Windows XP operating system or higher
      • Windows Media Player 10 (or higher)
      • An active Internet connection (to access the V CAST Music store or to get song information when playing or ripping music on a CD)
      • You must also be a Verizon Wireless post-pay subscriber to purchase music from the V CAST Music store. (I.e., you receive a monthly bill. Pre-pay customers can not access V CAST Music at this time.)
  10. I have V CAST Music Manager installed. How do I start using the application with one or more additional phones? Please visit www.verizonwireless.com/musicmanager to download the software again for each of your new phones.
  11. How can I easily keep track of my V CAST Music purchases? Open V CAST Music Manager or Windows Media Player 10 (or higher) and select V CAST Music. Log in, go to My Purchases. The purchase page lists every purchase (downloaded or not) you have made. Next to each purchase is an indication of whether the song has been downloaded or not. Downloaded songs can be found in the Music on My PC tab of V CAST Music Manager or the Library tab within Windows Media Player.
  12. Do the songs I downloaded to my phone appear on my online store purchase list? The purchase page lists every purchase (downloaded or not) you have made. An icon appears with each purchase that has not yet been downloaded. Downloaded songs can be found in the Music on My PC tab of V CAST Music Manager or the Library tab within Windows Media Player.
  13. Can I download songs to my external memory card using a USB card Reader? Licensed music must be synchronized to your phone or its external memory card using the appropriate USB cable and software in order to be playable on your phone. Licensed music transferred to the phone directly via a memory card will not play on your phone.
    Unprotected music may be transferred using Windows Explorer if it is in WMA format. V CAST Music phones with Version 01.02.000 or higher software such as the Chocolate by LG can also accept unprotected MP3 files. The file must be saved to the MY_MUSIC folder on the memory card to be played. Note: only unprotected MP3 files can be played after being sideloaded. Protected MP3 files must be transferred using the sync function in order to be played on the phone.
  14. Will I need to rename my song titles before I send them to my handset? No.

  1. Can I transfer Playlists from my PC to my Phone? Not at this time. You can sync the individual songs and then create a custom playlist on your phone.
  2. How do I login to the V CAST Music Online Store from my PC? Using an active Internet connection and a PC loaded with the Windows XP operating system and V CAST Music Manager and click on the V CAST Get Music tab. If you are using Windows Media Player 10 (or higher), open Windows Media Player and click on V CAST Music (found in the "online store" list). On your first visit, you will be presented with terms and conditions regarding your use of the service. After you have read and accepted these terms and conditions, you will reach the home page of the V CAST Music Online Store. Then, simply enter your 10-digit mobile number (using ONLY numbers and NO dashes or spaces) and enter your password. At this point, you are offered the option of activating Single Sign On (SSO), which will save your login and password for the future one step access to your online account.
    NOTE: Passwords are case sensitive. You must type it exactly as you when you registered. Then select Login. If you don’t have a password, please see the following two questions.
  3. I have registered for a Get It Now® service such as Vtext, PixPlace or the Get It Now website; do I need to register and create a new password on the V CAST Music online store that I access from my PC? No. Your 10-digit mobile number and Vtext , PixPlace or Get It Now website password can be used to login to the site.
  4. I don’t have a password for any Get It Now® services, how do I register at the V CAST Music store? Select the Register link in to the V CAST Music online store home page website.
    • Enter your 10-digit mobile phone number. Use ONLY numbers. Do not enter dashes, symbols, or spaces.
    • Click Send. Your temporary password will immediately be sent to your mobile phone as a TXT message.
    • After you have received your temporary password, enter it into the Temporary Password box. NOTE: Passwords are case-sensitive.
    • Create a new password:
      • Enter your desired new password into the New Password box. (Or you have the option to select “Save my Login & Password”. By doing so, each time you log in to the “on line store”, you can simply hit “login” and your login and password are automatically recalled) You will need this password each time you log back into the site.
      • Re-enter your new password in the Re-enter Password box to confirm spelling.
      • Click Save.
    • You'll be taken to Confirmation page. Click OK.
    • You'll be at the V CAST Music Store home page. Just log in and enjoy.
  5. How can I retrieve my password to access the V CAST Music Store from my PC? Click the Forgot Your Password link on the Log in page of the V CAST Music homepage. Then enter your 10-digit mobile number (using ONLY numbers and NO dashes or spaces). Click the Send button and your password will be sent to your phone as a text message.
  6. How do I purchase music from my computer?
    1. Open V CAST Music Manager or Windows Media Player 10 (and higher).
    2. In Music Manager, click on the V CAST Get Music tab. (In Windows Media Player, select V CAST Music)
    3. Sign In using your existing Get It Now password. If you have already created created a password on vtext.com or Pix Place, this same password can be used to log into the online store.
    4. Browse and select the song(s) or the album you would like to purchase by checking the box directly to the left of the song or album. Note: You can preview a song by clicking on the "headset" icon in the Preview column.
    5. Select BUY.
    6. You'll be asked to confirm your purchase.
    7. Select Purchase.
    8. You'll receive a message the content can now be downloaded.
  7. How long does it take to download a song I’ve purchased from the V CAST Music Store on my PC? The time it takes to download a file from the V CAST Music online Store is dependent on your internet connection speed.
  8. How can I transfer purchased music from my PC to my V CAST Music phone. Music must be transferred (“synced”) using the USB cable and software compatible with your V CAST Music phone. Note: compatible USB cables are available from Verizon Wireless.
    Also, On V CAST Music phones with Version 01.02.000 or higher software such as the Chocolate by LG, you can “sideload” unprotected MP3 files to the MY_MUSIC folder of your memory card. Note: only unprotected MP3 files can be played after being sideloaded. Protected MP3 files must be transferred using the sync function in order to be played on the phone.
    To sync music using V CAST Music Manager:
      • Use the USB cable compatible with your phone to connect your phone to your PC.
      • Open V CAST Music Manager.
      • The USB cable is connected to the device from the PC, the Music Manager software will automatically detect the phone, and activate the "sync" mode.
      • In V CAST Music Manager, select songs you want to sync and drag them to the "Sync List" box.
      • In V CAST Music Manager, select either the phone's internal memory or removable storage card.
      • Select Sync Now in V CAST Music Manager.
      • When complete, on your phone, exit Sync Music and disconnect the cable from your phone.
    To sync music in Windows Media Player :
      • Use the USB cable compatible with your phone to connect your phone to your PC.
      • Then open Windows Media Player 10 and select the Sync tab.
      • On your phone, go to the Get It Now menu, select Get Tunes & Tones (or Music & Tones) and then select Sync Music.
      • In Windows Media Player 10 (or higher), select Edit Playlist and select songs you want to sync and press OK. In Windows Media Player 11, select songs you want to sync and drag to the Sync List (“drag items here”)
      • Select to sync to either the phone’s removable storage card or internal memory.
      • Select Start Sync in Windows Media Player 10
      • When complete, on your phone, exit Sync Music and disconnect the cable from your phone.
    To side load unprotected music using a memory card:
      • Format memory card: turn on your phone, insert the card into the phone and then remove it.
      • Copy music files to the MY_MUSIC folder on the card.
    Note: only unprotected music files (including MP3) can be played after being sideloaded. Protected music files must sync in order to be played on the phone.
    Note: For questions about Windows Media Player, please check the Windows Media Player Guide or Help.
  9. How do I convert my MP3 files to be playable on my V CAST Music phone? Using V CAST Music Manager or Windows Media Player 10 (or higher) and the appropriate USB cable and software drivers, you can sync your MP3 files to the V CAST Music phone. During the sync process, MP3 files will automatically be transcoded, if necessary, to the WMA format that you can play on your V CAST Music phone. The original MP3 files on your PC will remain in the MP3 format. If you have MP3 files on a phone memory card, simply save them to your PC and then convert them as above.
    On V CAST Music phones with Version 01.02.000 or higher software such as the Chocolate by LG, you can "sideload" unprotected MP3 files to the MY_MUSIC folder of your memory card. (To format the memory card, turn on your phone, insert the card into the phone and then remove it. Save your music to the MY_MUSIC folder.) Note: only unprotected MP3 files can be played after being sideloaded. Protected MP3 files must sync in order to be played on the phone.
  10. Are iTunes® music files compatible with my V CAST Music-capable phone? Protected music purchased from iTunes is not compatible with V CAST Music phones or V CAST Music Manager. Music ripped from your CD collection (unprotected) can be synced to V CAST Music phones through V CAST Music Manager.
  11. Where can I find what songs I’ve purchased through V CAST Music? The PC version of a song you've purchased from your V CAST phone is available in your account in the V CAST Music online store accessible through V CAST Music Manager or Windows Media Player 10 or higher. Go to the V CAST Music store, log in and select My Purchases. The songs you have purchased are listed. Downloads can be retrieved by selecting the song and selecting Download.
  12. Can I buy an entire album through V CAST Music? Albums and individual songs can be purchased from the V CAST Music online store accessible through V CAST Music Manager or Windows Media Player 10 or higher. At this time, album purchases can not be made from the phone.
  13. If I delete a song from my PC, can I get it back? Songs deleted from the PC will be unavailable. We recommend that all songs should be backed up by burning them to CD.

Can I play ripped songs on my phone? Unprotected music you rip from your own CDs in WMA format can be played on your phone. If the music was ripped in MP3 format, it will be converted to WMA format, if necessary, when synced to the phone using the appropriate USB cable and drivers. When ripping, please ensure that you set the protection properly.
On V CAST Music phones with Version 01.02.000 or higher software such as the Chocolate by LG, you can “sideload” unprotected MP3 files to the MY_MUSIC folder of your memory card. (To format the memory card, turn on your phone, insert the card into the phone and then remove it. Save your music to the MY_MUSIC folder.) Note: only unprotected MP3 files can be played after being sideloaded. Protected MP3 files must be transferred using the sync function in order to be played on the phone.
